MailboxTees, That’s T-shirt in Your Mailbox
“Another” subscription-based tee shop I mentioned last time was actually MailboxTees — but I kept it for while at time because I was looking for additional info from them. So here’s my review of MailboxTees.
As I said earlier, MailboxTees is online shop that’s selling T-shirt based on customer monthly subscription. In simple analogy, it’s like if you subscribe a monthly magazine to a dealer — you pay them up front (for certain period) and receive the magazine later each month. You don’t know what story will be in the magazine next month or who will be in the cover, but you agree to receive anything they deliver. The same rule applies here; no returns, cancellation or refund is allowed.
There are three series of subscription you can choose from: nature vs. humankind, metropolitan and grab bag; each series can be subscribed for 3, 6, 9 or 12 months (except grab bag which only for 6 month). Inside the monthly mail, you’ll get a T-shirt plus a postcard with a picture, info about the artist and the artist’s message.
I’m still in doubt if this T-shirt subscription model could work well (and Jay argued it should work in a well-know environment like Threadless, I agree). But Karen (MailboxTees representative) has ensured me that they have a strong basis for this new model to work: “we did a 6 month tshirt subscription thru our retail shop in SF (www.shopmila.com) and then after that, started MailboxTees to expand the concept, in September 2006.”
If you have any experience on this kind of service, I’d like to hear it; and if you are interested to subscribe to MailboxTees’, take your time to read artists profile and see the past T-shirts collection. Those are only my suggestions [visit]
