Streetwear Straight Outta Persepolis
In a way, the Empire Collection makes clothing that is the ultimate in vintage. Their imagery and inspiration is Persepolis, the ancient capitol of the Persian Empire. The artwork that adorns their shirts is often the same material that can be seen carved into stone ruins.
My favorite of their shirts is The Mystic, which uses the calligraphy of a poem by Rumi to fill the fabric’s canvas. The result is a collection of gorgeous, sweeping lines that seem perfectly suited to the t-shirt medium. The off-center placement and reaching line at the top of the formation add a lot of visual interest, making this stand out from other calligraphy-based pieces.
It’s rare to see a streetwear enterprise with any consideration for ancient history, but the Empire Collection proves that it’s a combination that works.
