DBH Collective Exclusive is the Answer to Threadless “Made”

Exciting news from Design by Humans. As on the biggest Threadless competitor, it’s launching DBH Collective Exclusive, which apparently, following Threadless recent move to offer Threadless Artist Shops (so-called Threadless “Made”).

So what’s this DBH Collective Exclusive? It’s a collection of DTG-printed tees by some of the site’s most well-known, most loved (anything you want to call it) and in-demand artists and a new way for consumers to purchase and customize graphic tees from the industry’s top apparel designers.

Instead of competing with each others for print, artists will have more freedom to create and consumers will have more choices. For the customers, The Collective is like providing endless options of design and t-shirt color, giving each hand selected shirt its own individuality and uniqueness.

To introduce DBH Collective, Design by Humans picked 25 most sought out graphic tee designers in the industry by giving them an online storefront to upload their own t-shirt artwork.

Each selected T-shirt designer is given a profile to upload their own t shirt designs to sell online. The first 25 artists in DBH Collective were hand-picked and represent graphic tee art at its finest in an array of high-demand genres. Who are they? You may have heard Zerobriant, Radio Mode a.k.a Budi Satria Kwan, Wotto to name a few.

So how can it became this awesome? The answer is because DBH started using Direct to Garment printing. Some of you hav already noticed that DTG printing is a more cost effective way to print a one-off shirt. So if you as customer wants design X on shirt color Y, DBH will use their DTG printers to do such without the more expensive and longer process of screen printing. The biggest time saver is that all the colors are printed at once as opposed to separate screens for each color when screen printing. Awesome, indeed.

That’s why I think this is a great opportunity for artists and fans alike (that’s me!), the artists being able to showcase more of their designs (and on different color shirts of course) and the fans being able to buy them. The great news is, Design By Humans is accepting applications from other artists that interested in joining the DBH Collective program. Yay!

Prior to application, there is one thing to be checked first, you have to at least one Shirt of the Day print at DBH, because The Design By Humans curators only approve selected artwork to ensure the best t shirt designs are offered.

This is definitely a huge opportunity of artists who have won on goinf tee designs competition — like Design by Humans itself, Threadless, Shirt.Woot or even smaller sites like  Teefury and RIPTapparel. By joining DBH Collective, there are several advantage for artists like commission per shirt sold with transparent statistics to show exactly how your designs are selling, and don’t forget the DBH’s Featured Artist banners that help direct traffic to your individual’s work and a possibility of successful DBH Collective designs being tapped for future Shirt of the Day prints.

Since DBH Collective plans to officially launch on October 15th, 2012 with the opening of over 50 more artist store.
