I Can’t See Anything I don’t Like About You
Nan Lawson’s illustrations are the kind of cute and funny that nobody can’t get enough of. She makes lean, round faced, blushing men and women who always appear to be mid-blink. They do look like “hipsters,” too.
What is most interesting is where she pulls cultural cues from, just like this illustration printed on tee shirt, “I can’t see anything I don’t like about you”. Not only does she pick the best characters to illustrate, but she renders them in the most delicate ways possible, the simplistic and sweet nature of her work. With beautiful work like this but revolves around trademarked pop culture references, it feels like a mix of anime and woodcut storybook illustration.
Nan’s art is so simplistic but yet manage to truly capture the essence of the eternal sunshine of the spotless mind, quoting dialogue between Joel Barish and Clementine Kruczynski.
Joel: I can’t see anything I don’t like about you.
Clementine: But you will…, you will think of things and I’ll get bored with you and feel trapped because that’s what happens with me.
