Go Ape has just released their new line, a vintage tee by Joshua Kemble who tells a story about pretension which has been around us since the first. Some regard it as pressure, there is also considered as a trigger.

It is shown on the design of Pretension Vintage ($ 18.00) which is written “Utilizing a vaster knowledge of fine music, art, and literature to humilitate the common man”. It became obvious that in antiquity, vast knowledge of art, music and literature will make someonelook more superior than people who do not have such knowledge.

This vintage shirt is designed by Joshua Kemble, a freelance illustrator based on Oregon. He’s a Xeric Award winning freelance illustrator/cartoonist who’s done work for clients ranging from Nada Surf to Merrill Lynch. He’s currently working on a Graphic Novel for NBM Publishing, and his last comic numb, is available in it’s second printing, from his website. Even he has won several times a Threadless competition.

Unfortunately, the print shop that is used by Go Ape still continued to print this shirt on girls’ sizes, even though the print was a bit too big. Therefore, some of the girls’ shirts may have some or all of the bottom text missing. Girls’ shirts will be $10 instead of $18.

Everybody loves spring! To celebrate, Seventh Ink release their latest designs of 2010 Spring Line.

We know that comic is everlasting. But have you ever imagine the hand-painted webcomic that turning into a tee design and get printed? I find it cute! It’s Frank Gibson as an illustrator and creator of Tiny Kitten Teeth which is updated at least three times a week. But he’s not alone. There’s also Becky Dreistadt as a creator, and they have been making comics together for 5 years. The main fellow in the comic, Mewsli, shares a name with their actual one-year old cat.

And now you not only find the comic to read, but also to be worn as a t-shirt! These are two funny comic t-shirt design from Frank Gibson. While working as typographer is not quite appreciated as doctor or lawyers, you know the requirement of becoming the true font artist. It took years of observing the pattern and the beauty of each sketch and stroke of line drawings to master such knowledge.

Typography has already existed for centuries. The kind of Roman or Serif fonts has been known since the original time of alphabet. With enormous leaps on this modern technology era, creating new font may lies to the creativity of the designer. Constructing it only need one click away. Computer can finish what has been started.

For me, the design is very good, but maybe it will be better if we add more accentuate, including colors. Maybe most people will agree with me. This design is available for Guys and Girls with all sizes at US$20 using White American Apparel Tee fabric.

The first time I see this Mr Typeface tee (£15) I thought, “He must be handsome, classy, and a great poetry writer!” Just look at his vest and the way he hold himself together! Mr. Typeface by Mathiole is one of winners in SwishSwosh. SwishSwosh (cute name, by the way) is a British t-shirt brand focussing on limited edition tshirts and hoodies created via an ongoing design competition. Tim Burton is a well known director especially for his Gothic theme in every movie he directs. One movie that will approach us is Alice in Wonderland. Approximately, the movie will be premiered starting next week, based on the classic novel by English author Charles Lutwidge Dodgson (under pseudonym Lewis Carroll). The actual published date of the novel was on 1865, since then there are lot of movies made based on the characters.

Bringing up the Gothic spirit, La Carmina presents the Carmina in Wonderland t-shirt, designed by Joy. The picture depicts Alice and her cat — the grinning Cheshire cat that we used to know. Of course, it’s quite creepy picture presented but hey it’s Gothic after all!

The news about earthquake struck Haiti recently definitely blew our mind. Haiti is the poorest country in the region and solving this problem all alone is nearly impossible. They need our help. One of respected t-shirt maker, Threadless, is trying to knock t-shirt fans empathy by creating this superb shirt. All sales made from this shirt will be donated to Haitian through American Red Cross.

Can you read the sentence written in this design? I had trouble too reading it. Apparently it’s written in Creole language, one of official language in Haiti (beside French). It reads as “Men anpil chay pa lou” and can be translated as “Many Hands Make the Load Lighter”. They can’t solve this humanity problem alone and they need us. World’s hand on this matter definitely will a relief to their pain.

I don’t recognize most of “animals” pictured in this group shot, I reckon most of them resemble “cats” (or the likes), an animal looks like “sheep”, but I can’t tell which one in specific. The new tee from Original68, Human Being (£18) tries to remind us the real human inside us that sometimes forgotten. The design interprets the unique concept of Human Being. If we came in boxes, we’d look something like this: we’re fragile, that’s why we need to handle ourselves (and other people too!) carefully. Elena Gallen, a visual artist located in Barcelona that already well known with her bleeding nose Kate Moss and the double headed Bambi design tee, is now releasing new designs. I always easily fall in love with full illustration t-shirts, and these tees from MonsterThreads, that offers not only full illustration but also edgy style, has won my attention immediately. Another great t-shirt by MonsterThreads is Ace. It’s like putting the Ace card in a t-shirt, only, using the more contemporary illustration style. The result is a very sophisticated and unique t-shirt to wear!

My favorite from all of MonsterThreads t-shirts is Hanging Thing. Basically a different point of view of designing a tee. The illustration is actually drawn to ‘hang’ around the t-shirt neck line. That’s awesome!

Drawing is a lovely activity. Everyone is doing it — from little kids, art students to experienced artists and professionals (like architects and engineers) — either when we need to get serious works done or doing something fun like sketches in the margins of their notebooks just to kill some times.

Flux Collection’s WE T-shirt is an adaption of artwork by Carrie Schneider entitled WE which was exhibited from Oct 17 – Dec 6, 2008 at Monique Meloche Gallery in Chicago, IL. Self-portraitist Carrie Schneider was posing in zebra-skinned (black-and-white, high-contrast patterns) costume as human figure, a profile which represented the exploitation of camouflage art using a ghilie suit — blending with the nature. Something that’s, well if you see from here, absolutely creepy and yet wonderful. See the original photograph far below.

It’s been a while since I featured tee shirts from one of the most crowded ongoing tee shirt design competition on the internet, Design by Humans (DBH). I can talk about their new tees every week because of two things: one, these designs have been tightly selected by DBH competitive contest (almost comparable to Threadless to some extent); two, these designs are simply outstanding when it comes to experimental, cutting-edge graphic tee shirts! But I need to look for other tee labels too, giving too much attention to DBH might not be healthy for us

Geisha is about beautyness like sakura flowers … sadly, that doesn’t always mean happiness. Oddetti’s design follows a story of a geisha desperately waiting for her lover to come home from fighting in a war. Each tee color represents a different time of day as she patiently waits. (yellow means “sunrise”, white is “noon” and black represents “sunset”). *image below

With mixed medium of colored pencil and water color, tealesm makes the best of illustration of the exoskeletons or widely known as “shells”. I’m not a fan of this tee shirt, but I can’t disagree knowing some people like it for the simplicity and meaningful design. *image below

Who doesn’t love a piece of french toast? Especially when you make the bread yourself one day in the morning. Here’s how I like it: a simple basic bread prepared without using any salt then cooked slowly; no butter but vegetable oil instead. I brushed a little on the skillet! Don’t laugh but that’s how I like it. How about you?

Now let’s imagine having this bread like Picasso with his little beret and mustache… ready to paint your colorful day. Something like what Jessica Hill was doodling one day and it made me laugh. Here’s the lates update from one of the biggest yearly T-shirt compatition, The Design By Humans 10K. It has just come to a close, claiming csj89 and his design Mecha-Labaw as the big winner of the $10,000 prize… Hoorrayy!

Mecha-Labaw (odd name, huh?) was inspired by Carabao (or Kalabaw), a water buffalo often used by farmers in agricultural country, Philipines — an animal which has been long considered as a national symbol. Interesting story is not the only clue that help this design win the prize; it’s its intricate, vectored detail and huge print, collected the most votes of all the top four designs.

IBut csj89 wasn’t the only finalist to walk away with a big prize- 2nd place, 3rd place, 4th place, and 5th place were also printed, each earning their designers a print and a nice pay check.

Indeed, these designs are not to be missed: CollisionTheory claimed second place with Twilight Rain, a colorful riff on nature. Third place went to TangYauHoong and his design Journey to the City of No Horizon, which paints a picture of a a city cleft in two by a river made of sky. Gloopz’s SOS Strawberry Flavor (this one was my favorite out of all designs!) nabbed 4th with its unique mix of style and laid-back humor. And in fifth place was the distinctive Umibozu by thestray, a spooky seascape based on Japanese folklore. See them all only on Design by Humans!
