There is no question that the last few years of world history have seen a fair share of chaos and disorder. With so much global unrest, governments worldwide are struggling to devise new methods to maintain order. The Galactic Empire’s solution to order is the Death Star. A Death Star was a moon-sized Imperial military battlestation armed with a planet-destroying superlaser that used for catching and storing Pokémon… Oh, wait!
Of all animals, bears is probably the one that most clearly resembles human beings in appearance. Even apes can stand upright only slouched over and with considerable difficulty. Bears, however, can walk and even run on two legs almost as well as a human.
The fur of a bear resembles clothing. Like a person, a bear looks straight ahead, but the expressions of bears are not easy for us to read. Often the wide eyes of a bear suggest perplexity, making it appear that the bear is a human being whose form has mysteriously been altered. Bears, however, are generally far larger and stronger than people, so they could easily be taken for giants.
Fred Quemener created Hellbound, a complex artwork of disfigured face vectorized by interlocking cuts graphics. The graphic shows interplay between mystical iconography of the stained glass and layered textures and hybrid silhouettes. It also confronts several paradigms for questioning outside the imaginary spectrum. Confused? Don’t be (because I am!). Just enjoy the artwork by wearing it in screen printed tee shirt — only 50 pieces sold at Phenum.
